The Continual School Improvement (CSI) Process
Members of the entire educational community at YHS worked together to develop and write a mission statement that communicated what we felt was the overall purpose of our school and its responsibility to our students. Through much input and many revisions, we agreed upon our current mission statement. Our mission statement was developed through consensus decision-making.
After
the acceptance of our mission statement, members of the entire educational
community looked at the data we had available concerning our students.
We disaggregate the data based on gender, grade level and quarters.
This, along with parent, teacher and student surveys, gave us a
more in-depth understanding of what our students' needs were in
the curricular areas. Through a tedious process we chose our two
goals. The goals are improving reading comprehension and writing
skills across the curriculum.
The next step in this process involved researching and selecting the interventions we wanted to implement in all of our classrooms. Many members of our educational community spent countless hours researching possible interventions. Through brainstorming, modeling and consensus, we chose daily reading and summary writing as our interventions. All teachers have implemented these into our daily classroom activities and collect monthly samples for our records.
